Muscat: Nama Group concluded the second edition of Nama Ambassadors’ Programme, a sustainability initiative conducted by the group, with a ceremony held on December 14, 2017 at the Ministry of Education Auditorium in Al Wattiya in Wilayat Bousher. The closing ceremony was held under the patronage of Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education, with the attendance of Dr. Rawya Saud Al Busaidi, Minister of Higher Education, Hassan bin Mohamed Al Lawati, chairman of Nama Group, and Eng. Omar bin Khalfan Al Wahaibi, chief executive officer of the group, as well as other key officials, senior representatives from Nama Group and concerned parties.
During the closing ceremony, the winning teams were honoured as well as relevant institutions that supported the programme. The best three projects from the school category and the best three projects from colleges, universities and vocational training centres category were announced based on the evaluation results of the programme’s committee.
From the school category, Zainab bint Al Rasoul Basic School team won the first place for the "Calcine in Our Lives Project,” while Bilarab Bin Sultan School team scored the second for the "Smart Water Heater Project.” In addition, Mijzi Basic School team ranked third for the "Sustainable Majazi Project.”
In colleges, universities and vocational training centres category, Nizwa University team won the first place for “Idama Project.” Salalah College of Technology team ranked the second of "Beach Cleaning Project.” Ibri Vocational Training Centre scored the third for “Power bank Transformer Project“ as well as Musanna College of Technology team for “Thermo Power Generator Project."
“The Group seeks to unlock the potential of the Omani youth by conducting such initiatives by the Group to serve the local community and to contribute to the National Economy development,” Eng. Omar bin Khalfan Al Wahaibi, chief executive officer of the group.
"Following the successes achieved since the launch of first edition of the project last year, Nama Group is committed to support this programme in the next years with an integrated approach as well as maximise efforts with all concerned parties to best benefit the participants," he added.
Nama Ambassadors’ Programme is a sustainability initiative that aims to equip students with sustainable development approaches and skills and motivates them to create projects that serve the community. The programme aims also to encourage students to work collectively and manage sustainable projects, and through their active roles as Ambassadors of Nama, they will introduce the skills they gained to their peers to serve the Sultanate at present and future.
The total number of projects this year was 305, with 60 projects selected for the implementation stage and 20 projects qualified to compete for the first six places. These projects were selected in the final evaluation phase by a special committee consisting of experts in the field of sustainability. They evaluated the teams according to standards and criteria agreed for this programme.
Since its launch, the total number of students in the first and second editions involved in Nama Ambassador Programme stood at 1681 from various educational institutions and vocational training centers in the Sultanate. The number of training hours reached 15,768 hours covering 580 students from the entire Sultanate's schools, 800 students from colleges and universities, and 301 students from vocational training centres and from fishermen training Institutes in the Sultanate.
