Cricket: Oman in Dubai for series against HK

Dubai: Determined to prepare well for the World Cricket League (WCL) Division 2 early next year, Oman’s red brigade arrived in Dubai on Saturday morning for a three-match series against Hong Kong.
Oman, who won the three-match home series against USA 3-0, has arrived here in high spirits and determined to do well against stronger opponents.
Leading the team’s mission to be in fine fettle before February’s main competition in Namibia, Oman’s head coach Duleep Mendis is upbeat about how things have panned out so far.
“We have just landed here in Dubai after a very good series against USA which we won 3-0. Boys are gearing up to do equally well against Hong Kong who play in WCL Division 1 (championship),” said Mendis.
Oman coach said his team must make the most of such opportunities to reach the optimum level before they embark on the journey to Namibia.
“I want the players to perform well against Hong Kong as well and get ready, tour by tour, for the main event in February,” he added.
Oman tried some new players against USA and will be doing the same in the next assignments to finalise the best combination for the team.
“The whole preparation campaign is designed to arrive at what is best for the team. We tried some new faces against USA and we are going to try different players in different roles to finalise the best combination for the team before February,” stressed the coach.
Oman will face Hong Kong in the first match at Dubai Sports City Stadium on Sunday, followed by two games on December 12 and 14.
