Two Omani public sector projects pick awards in Kuwait

Kuwait: The gCloud Project of Information Technology Authority (ITA) and Advanced Manpower Management System of the Ministry of Manpower won two awards as the best technology projects in the public sector in the Arab world at 17th edition of Sheikh Salim Al Ali Informatics Award.
This was announced in the honouring ceremony, which was held at Bayan Palace on Wednesday under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait.
The ceremony was attended by Hamad bin Khamis Al A’amri, Undersecretary of Labour Affairs at the Ministry of Manpower, and Dr. Salim bin Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of Information Technology Authority (ITA).
In a bid to transform to e-Government, the Ministry of Manpower activated the e-services system to meet the needs of citizens, business owners, private sector employees and job seekers. The system includes a number of channels for communication, such as the Ministry’s website, the mobile application, and the ‘Sanad’ centers.
ITA’s gCloud serves as a shared infrastructure for public entities to develop their e-services in a way that drives the e-Government transformation in the Sultanate. The infrastructure includes servers, networks, data storage and applications. The gCloud currently includes 7 government projects that saved about OMR4.2 million.
It is worth mentioning that Sheikh Salim Al Ali Informatics Award was established in 2001, with the aim of supporting the e-Knowledge and development of human resources capabilities in the IT field.
