Muscat: Arya Deshpande captured the boys under-12 singles title at the on-going Arabia Falcon Insurance-sponsored Annual Tennis Tournament organized by the Indian Social Club (ISC).

In the final, Arya showed brilliance and doggedness and held his nerves for an impressive 6-2, 7-5 upset victory over top seed Praneet Raj.

If one was to go by the scoreline of the first set, Praneet should be commended for the brilliant fightback he gave before going down.

Praneet rallied from 2-5 down in the second set, broke Arya in the ninth game and held for five-games-all.

Arya held in the crucial eleventh game and broke Praneet to claim victory and the boys under-12 title.

Top seed in the veterans singles, KK Girish advanced to the semifinals after downing PS Sriram 8-0 in the quarterfinals.

Sriram had earlier defeated Manish Sikander 8-1. SK Viswanathan beat Mariappan Gurusamy 8-0 and Ronnie Pereira beat Hemchandra Ail 8-2 and Deepak Varvani defeated Suresh Kumar 8-3 to progress to the quarterfinals.

In the senior girls round robin league, Kaavya Jayakumar defeated Ishnika Singh 6-0, Arshitha AR struggled before overcoming Amitha Shanmukhi 7-5 and Amritha Shanmukhi blanked Madhura Pandit 6-0.
