Test your limits at this week's Spartan Race

Muscat: If you live in Oman and are looking for a challenge to push your endurance to the limits, look no further than Friday’s Spartan Race.
After the resounding success of Oman’s first-ever Spartan Race last year, the world’s most gruelling competition returns to Jabal Sifah on November 24.
Spartan Arabia’s latest foray into Oman is sure to be a challenging gauntlet for Oman’s best of athletes and promises to be a challenge that adrenaline junkies will be looking to pit their might (and mind) against.
Held in collaboration with Oman’s Ministry of Tourism, a total of five events across three categories have been planned for this year’s Spartan Race.
Two of them will take place under the sprint category, which has been further subdivided into the elite sprint and open sprint classes.
These sprints will start at 9.30am and will last for up to seven kilometres, with athletes expected to tackle 23 challenging obstacles on the way, including a variety of terrain featuring mud, rocks, sand and the sea. Fire pits and barbed wire will also be part of the race obstacles.
The elite sprint is priced at $112 (OMR43), while the registration for the open sprint cost $75 (OMR29). However, the super category will provide more challenges. Two more races have been set up under this category — the elite super and open super events.
These will begin around 7.30am and will cover a total of 15 kilometres while being peppered with 29 daunting obstacles, providing the ultimate challenge of strength and skill. The elite super costs $118 (about OMR45.5), while the open super is around $88 (OMR34).
Organised in collaboration with XDubai, which is well known in the region for its extreme sports competitions, this year’s event also features a race for children, which will take place from 10am to noon.
The registration for this event is priced at $40 (OMR15.5), but prices will increase as the race day approaches.
