News Rewind: Oman Air announces huge National Day discounts on flight tickets

Oman's 47th National Day celebrations dominated headlines across the Sultanate this week. Here's a look at our most read stories, with our weekly News Rewind:
On the occasion of Oman's 47th National Day, the Sultanate's national carrier Oman Air began offering travellers with up to 47 per cent discount on fares. The offers are valid for booking in economy class and business class until November 18, 2017, for outbound travel between November 21, 2017 and March 31, 2018, according to the airline.
It was announced this week that His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander, will preside over the 47th Glorious National Day military parade, which will be staged at the parade ground at the Police Task Force headquarters in the Wilayat of Seeb on Saturday, November 18.
With the National Day holiday announcement expected soon, companies and hotels in the Sultanate have begun promoting a host of offers and discounts for residents and tourists in the country. Check out the offers in our round up here. Residents and travel agents in Oman are eagerly awaiting the holiday dates to be announced to finalise flights, getaways and travel plans.
Foreigners from more countries can now enter Oman on a year-long tourist visa, provided that their stay in Oman does not exceed one month at a time. The privilege has now been extended to 68 countries, including 39 European nations, 10 South American countries, besides 19 other states.
Oman's Council of Ministers has authorised a OMR100 million handout to citizens adversely affected by the removal of the fuel subsidy, a move that many have called a "generous gesture". Oman's fuel subsidy was removed in early 2016 in an effort to ration government expenditure. Fuel prices have since risen by more than 50 per cent, peaking last month.
