Muscat Municipality installs 84 energy-saving LED street lights

Muscat: Eighty four energy-saving LED street lights, measuring 1,800m, have been installed by Muscat Municipality on the road facing Qurum beach, as part of the decorations for the National Day celebrations.

The work was part of Muscat Municipality's 2018 project to replace the current traditional lighting in Muscat Governorate with energy saving lighting (LEDs).

The project is expected to cut electricity consumption by 60 per cent and aims to ration electricity consumption, conserve energy and achieve sustainable development standards, with an operating period of up to 20 years and a 10-year warranty.

"This project will provide great advantages, the most important of it is the rationing of electricity consumption by 60 per cent and the conservation of energy resources," Engineer Ziad Bin Abdul Majid Al Zadjali, Director of Lighting Department in Muscat Municipality said.

He added that the project will achieve an environmental result in terms of reducing carbon emissions resulting from reduced power demand from generation plants, rationalisation of consumption and minimise maintenance costs.
