Deputy Prime Minister receives Cyprus House speaker in Muscat

Muscat: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers received on Sunday Demetris Syllouris Speaker of the Cypriot House of Representatives and his accompanying delegation.
Demetris Syllouris conveyed the greetings of the leadership in the Republic of Cyprus to His Majesty the Sultan, the government along with their wishes of further progress and prosperity for the Omani people.
Sayyid Fahd reviewed the march of the existing relations between the two friendly countries and affirmed the importance of the efforts made to enhance the existing bilateral cooperation and means of developing it in many fields that serve the joint interests.
Conversation during the meeting covered the developments on the regional and international arenas, as well as the efforts made to address the new developments to maintain peace and stability.
The two sides discussed means of enhancing cooperation in economic, scientific and health fields, as well as exchange of investments and expertise and activating the agreements signed between the two countries.
The Speaker of the Cypriot House of Representatives expressed his and his accompanying delegation’s esteem for their visit to the Sultanate and appreciation of his country to the comprehensive achievements made in the Sultanate.
He hailed the Shura approach in the national work and highlighted the vital role played by the Sultanate in enhancing stability of the region and promoting dialogue and understanding among countries.
He also expressed his satisfaction with the talks he had with the Chairman of Majlis Al Shura and the Omani officials which will have positive effects.
Sayyid Fahd requested the Cypriot guest to convey the greetings of His Majesty the Sultan and his good wishes to the Cypriot leadership and government for further prosperity and progress for the friendly Cypriot people.
The meeting was attended by Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis A’Shura and Hilal bin Said Al Yahyaie, member of Majlis A’Shura.
Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court
Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court received in his Office on Sunday Dimitris Silores Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus and his accompanying delegation, currently visiting the Sultanate.
During the meeting cordial conversations were exchanged and bilateral relations between the Sultanate and the friendly Republic of Cyprus were reviewed.
The meeting was attended by Khalid bin Hilal Al Mawali, Chairman of Majlis A’Shura, Andreas Panayiotou Ambassador of Republic of Cyprus to the Sultanate and Hilal bin Said Al Yahyai, Chairman of the Shura Committee on Food and Water Security.
State Council Chairman
Separately, Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council received the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus and his accompanying delegation, within the framework of his visit to the Sultanate.
The Chairman of the State Council expressed his hope that the visit will contribute to deepen and strengthen the relations of cooperation between the two countries and push them to greater horizons by opening new avenues, especially in the economic, trade, scientific, research and cultural fields in order to serve their common interests, particularly the memorandum of avoidance of double taxation between the two countries.
Dr. Al Mantheri reviewed the stages of the development of the Shura march in the Sultanate. He affirmed the support of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and his keenness to develop and enhance this march in order to keep pace with the aspirations of the Sultanate’s citizens.
Majlis Al Shura Chairman
Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Al Shura also received Demetris Syllouris, and his accompanying delegation currently visiting the Sultanate.
Al Maawali pointed to the common relations between the two friendly countries, pointing out the importance of these meetings in enhancing cooperation in various fields, especially parliamentary affairs.
The meeting discussed ways to develop relations between Majlis Al Shura and the House of Representatives of Cyprus in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries, in addition to the convergence of views on the various issues on the work of the international and regional parliamentary unions to achieve the interests of the peoples of the two friendly countries.
