Karate: Golden Group emerge winners at Salalah Karate Championship

Muscat: Golden Group Team emerged the overall champions as the curtains came down on the second Salalah Karate Championship organised at Al Saada Sports Complex in Salalah recently.
The championship was organised by Oman Karate Committee in co-operation with the Directorate General of Sports Affairs in Dhofar Governorate.
The event attracted several Oman clubs, including Al Nasr, Dhofar, Al Ittihad, Al Nasoor Karate Team of Dhofar and Karate Pioneers Academy of Muscat as well as the Golden Group Team of the interior region.
At the end of the championship, which saw several competitions in kata and kumite categories among both men and women, the Golden Group Team took the title after having won 20 medals of different colours.
Al Ittihad Club finished a close second, winning 19 medals. The third and fourth places went to Al Nasr Club and Al Nusoor Karate Club respectively.
Karate Pioneers Academy and Dhofar Club finished fifth and sixth respectively.

During the championship, Oman Karate Committee also conducted a workshop for karate referees in kata and kumite with international referee Shihan Ahmed bin Said Al Zakawani, the head of the technical committee and the head of the referees committee, delivering a lecture on international arbitration regulations.
The Oman Karate Committee will now organise the 10th Oman Karate Championship in Muscat in December.
