Art exhibition in Muscat to celebrate Oman-India relations down the ages

Muscat: An exhibition of Indian and Omani portraits and paintings will be organised at the Omani Society for Fine Arts from November 7 to 13 by the Indian Embassy in Muscat.
The exhibition is dedicated to celebrate the 47th Glorious National Day. The exhibition will include exhibits showcasing the high-level political exchanges between Oman and India.
India and Oman are linked by geography, history and culture.
They enjoy warm and friendly relations that are attributed to historical maritime trade linkages and seminal role played by Indian community in building of Oman. Reflecting the importance of strategic relations between the two countries, there have been frequent visits at the highest level.
Apart from visits of President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma (1996) and Vice-President Shri Krishna Kant (1999), Prime Ministers Shri Rajiv Gandhi (1985), Shri P. V. Narasimha Rao (1993), Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1998) and Dr. Manmohan Singh (2008) have also visited the Sultanate. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said visited India in 1997.
The Exhibition will have paintings showcasing high-level meetings during these visits.
The maritime trade and cultural exchanges, spanning over 5,000 years, between India and Oman, have led to intermingling of cultural traditions of the two countries as reflected in their crafts, textiles, cuisine, customs, etc. The Exhibition will contain paintings of Indian and Omani crafts to illustrate their common features.
The Exhibition will consist of portraits of prominent Omani and Indian Leaders and paintings of Arts and Crafts of Oman and India, made by Indian artist, Sedunath Prabhakar.
Besides, 30 paintings made by Indian artists, based in Muscat, depicting unique and representative places and people from 29 states and Delhi, the Capital City, of India, will also be on display in the Exhibition. The Exhibition will open on 7th November 2017.
The exhibits will remain on display till 13th November 2017 at the premises of the Omani Fine Arts Society.
