Ministry of commerce-ROP agreement to facilitating customs procedures

Muscat: A cooperation agreement signed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) with Royal Oman Police (ROP) on some customs services and clearance of goods will facilitate customs procedures and trade, the ministry has said.
The agreement is also expected to enhance joint cooperation among public organisations involved in trade activities.
Eng. Ali bin Saif Al Hadi, Secretary of the Industrial Register at the Directorate General of Industry at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the agreement will come into force during 30 days from the date of execution on October 9 2017.
He pointed out that the agreement will improve the services provided to industrial sector in terms of quick processing, regularizing work and facilitating industrial activity procedures.
He pointed out that there are a number of transactions provided by the agreement including giving approval on release of raw materials, spare parts, tools and equipment during two hours from the date of submitting the application.
If the processing of the transaction took more than two hours, the custom system "Bayan" will be deemed to have approved the transaction automatically.
Lists of exemption applications submitted by factories will be processed through the system to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Finance for consideration.
On his part, Awadh bin Said Al Alawi, Director of the Commercial Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the agreement aims at availing all import, export and re-export licenses through "Bayan" system – of the Directorate General of Customs at ROP- electronically as this will save time and effort of investors.
The agreement will also ensure processing commercial transactions in two hours at maximum through Bayan system which is available 24/7 for investors to submit their applications.
He added that employees were dedicated at the Ministry and its Directorates at the various governorates to audit transactions and give approvals.
