Rare treatment in Oman gives toddler new lease of life

Muscat: A medical team from Respiratory Care at the Ministry of Health (MOH), in collaboration with the Al Mazroui Medical Supplies Company, has performed an interventional treatment on a three-year old boy with breathing difficulties. The procedure involved modifying a breathing device to be adapted for the baby.

The child had been suffering from respiratory problems and had been a patient in Ibra hospital for two years.

Khalsa Al Siyabi, Head of Respiratory Care Section at MOH Supportive Services Department, stated that the issue of the patient was referred to the section with the aim of providing a portable ventilation device that could be used at home and avoid prolonged stays at health institutions.

A Portable Respirator was provided in addition to installing a CO2 drainage device. The medical procedure took the respiratory care team five hours to complete.

The child’s health condition is stable with the help of the device, and he was discharged from the hospital, medics reported.
