Oman takes part in Unesco Executive Board meeting in Paris

Paris: The Sultanate, represented by its Permanent Representative Office at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) Dr. Samira bint Mohammed Al Mousa, is participating in the (202) Session of the Executive Board of the Unesco, as a member of the board, currently being held at the Unesco headquarters in Paris until October 18.
The agenda of this session includes the discussion of a number of topics related to Unesco’s objectives and priorities, issues relating to the budget and programmes of the organisation, the financial situation, human resources issues, the discussion of strategic results reports and other important issues on the agenda, as well as proposing a candidate for the post of Director-General for the Unesco for the coming period.
On the sidelines of the session, the meetings of the Special Committee were chaired by Ambassador Dr. Samira, during which the reports of the Joint Inspection Unit (JIU), that are of interest to Unesco, were discussed and the status of implementation of the recommendations and procedures and working methods of Unesco’s two governing bodies were discussed. The amendment of rule 23 of the rules of procedure of the Executive Board was also discussed.
It is worth mentioning that the Sultanate chaired the Special Committee during the thirty-eighth session of the Unesco General Conference in 2015. The Committee considers the administrative matters of the Executive Board of Unesco, including the schedule of the sessions of the board, as well as the governance, procedures and working methods of the two governing bodies of Unesco.
