Golf: Top 12 Omani amateurs to play during NBO Golf Classic Grand Final

Muscat: Twelve Omani nationals have secured an opportunity to play during the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final and network with some of the best golfers in the world.
According to a statement issued by the organisers, a key drive in NBO’s sponsorship of the European Challenge Tour season ending Grand Final is a desire to develop the game of golf in Oman at the grassroots and advanced levels.
The unique Omani amateur tournament is in its third year and has seen Azzan Al Rumhy and Fahad Al Kitani take the title in 2015 and 2016 respectively. This year’s tournament sees both former winners taking part in the championship vying for the title.
Alongside them will be a number of top ranked Omani golfers and national players who will be given the opportunity to claim the NBO Amateur Grand Final Trophy. The winner will also be given the opportunity to play in the King Hamed Trophy in Bahrain.
A total of 26 amateur golfers competed for six qualifying spots over two qualifying rounds, playing a total of 36 holes at the Ghala Golf Club and Almouj Golf. The further six spots were awarded in the Golf Oman Order of Merit, going to the most consistent golfers of the amateur season.
The NBO Amateur Grand Final is part of an initiative driven by Golf Oman and NBO to further develop golf within the country.
The NBO Golf Classic Grand Final is the culmination of the European Challenge Tour’s “Road to Oman”, which includes 27 tournaments across 22 different countries. Golfers are competing for a share of a €420,000 prize fund, with the top 15 players in the final “Road to Oman” rankings earning playing cards for next season’s European Tour International Schedule.
National Bank of Oman remains steadfast in its commitment to grow golf in Oman, and recently visited the Military School College and a series of other schools across the country to teach cadets and students about the sport.
