Fire breaks out at a school in Oman

Muscat: A classroom at the Al Kawab primary school in Wilayat Salalah caught fire on Wednesday, April 24, due to a faulty air conditioning unit.

The Director General (DG) of Education in Dhofar issued a statement regarding the fire at the school.

According to the directorate of education, no injuries were recorded as a result of the ‘simple fire,' which was caused by a fault in an air conditioner in the classroom. The statement said that there was slight damage to school property.

"The Directorate General of Education in Dhofar would like advice that a fault in one of the air conditioning units at the Al Kawkab primary school in Salalah caused a slight fire. Thankfully none of the people present in the school were injured as a result of the fire with the exemption of slight damage to one of the class room. Work is underway to return the class room back to the way it was," the directorate’s statement read.

The DG then went on to reaffirm that the classes and working hours will resume per usual for the student and teachers tomorrow, Thursday April 25.
