Salalah Methanol's production grows to 8 million tonnes

Muscat: Salalah Methanol Company (SMC) has achieved a new production milestone of 8 million tonnes on August 23, 2017.
SMC achieved this landmark production figure in less than 8 years, since the company started producing methanol in May 2010.
“This is indeed a remarkable milestone and this achievement further demonstrates the efficient and stable operations of our facilities and enhances our reputation as a reliable supplier of methanol globally. This achievement was made possible thanks to the continuous improvement, hard work, dedication, team effort and commitment of everyone associated including the successful, long term training and capacity building activities undertaken as part of SMC’s Omanisation efforts,” Awad bin Hassan Al Shanfari, managing director of SMC.
“Omani nationals account for 64 per cent of the Salalah-based methanol plant’s workforce. This feat underscores our commitment to operational excellence and congratulates everyone who has made a valued contribution to achieve this milestone,” he added.
SMC owns and operates methanol production facility in the Salalah free zone located near the port of Salalah. The company was founded in February 2006 and is fully owned by Oman Oil Company.
