Weak oil prices hampered Oman’s projects: Minister

Muscat: The oil crisis has prevented the implementation of many projects, according to Sheikh Khalid bin Omar Al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service .
Al Marhoon said that due to a lower budget, the government has also stopped granting promotions to public sector
employees.
In a wide ranging statement covering a number of issues including plans and policies for the development of human resources and the civil service pension fund, Al Marhoon added, “Promotions are a government decision and not a ministry decision. The employment crisis is a global issue and there is a good level of recruitment in the military and private sectors.”
Al Marhoon stressed that the government sector will continue to hire job seekers. The issue of replacing expats by Omanis in the public sector will be studied urgently, he continued, and the issue of sick leave in the public sector was not a common problem in Oman.
Majlis Al Shura will again host Al Marhoon on Monday, during the 12th and 13th regular sessions for the 4th annual convening (2018-2019) of the 8th term (2015-2019) to discuss the ministry’s statement on several issues.
