Pakistan hands over $24 million hospital to Afghanistan

Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan officially handed over the Jinnah Hospital in Kabul to Afghanistan, Pakistan's Foreign Office.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Dr. Mohammed Faisal the 200-bed hospital was completed at a cost of $24 million.

The hospital was inaugurated by Afghanistan’s Vice-President Sarwar Danish and Minister of Public Health Dr. Ferozuddin Feroz as well as Pakistan’s Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan.

According to a press release, Khan shared the hope that the Jinnah Hospital would make a substantial contribution to the health sector of Afghanistan, conveying the message of Prime Minister Imran Khan that Pakistan would continue to take all possible measures for the welfare of the people of Afghanistan. The Prime Minister, he said, wished to see a stable, secure, peaceful, prosperous and sovereign Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

On his part, Dr. Feroz expressed his deep thanks for the gift from Pakistan and appreciation for the country's assistance in the health sector, which also includes the construction of the 100-bed and $19 million Naeb Aminullah Khan Hospital in Logar and the Nishtar Kidney Center in Jalalabad.

According to Pakistan's envoy Zahid Nasrullah Khan, the hospital is a flagship project of his country's $1 billion assistance to neighboring Afghanistan.
