Oman's ministry registers 85 violations of commercial establishments

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry registered 85 violations committed by the commercial establishment and individuals in Muscat governorate during the year 2018. These violations were those of orders, decisions and regulations governing commercial activities in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Department of the Commercial Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that inspection campaigns were being carried out continuously on various markets to see if they are properly controlled and regulated.
This exercise also activated the monitoring work of the department. The inspection drive was launched when the ministry noticed that a number of shops were displaying products which were in violation of rules and regulations.
The ministry said that the some of the illegal products were confiscated and legal actions were initiated against the offender establishments and individuals.
It said that these violations included ignoring Article 12 of the Royal Decree No. 53/2004 concerning the law of the state flag as well as national emblem and anthem.
The ministry took the action when it found that some of the commercial establishments were using the emblem of the Sultanate and the Royal Emblem, national flag or the map of the country on some of their products without the permission of the concerning agencies. Also they have used incomplete or distorted pictures of these emblems and flag.
Some of the commercial establishments also violated Ministerial Decision No. 270/2015 which has banned import of some of the products. Some of them were found importing and selling military uniforms or similar dresses and accessories.
These establishments were found also selling items which contain offensive or obscene images, slogans which are against the public order, etiquette, or abuse of Omani dresses.
The ministry, in the year 2018, found that some of the commercial establishments were violating regulations of sale at the reduced prices against the Ministerial Resolution No. 129/2015. In addition to this, there have also been violations of the law of promotional offers as issued by Ministerial Decision No. 239 of 2013 as well as rules for the marketing cards as issued under the Ministerial Resolution No. 249/95. All these actions were taken as part of the role of monitoring which the ministry is supposed to play.
