11.5 per cent rise in fixed phone line subscribers in Oman

Muscat: The total number of fixed telephone line subscribers grew by 11.5 per cent to 471,142 at the end of July 2017 compared to end of December 2016 when it was 422,518 subscribers, according to the statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The data showed that the number of mobile phone subscriptions went up by 3.8 per cent to 7.129,350 compared to 6,866,260 subscriptions at the end of December last year. Of the total mobile phone services subscribers, there were 638,865 post-paid subscriptions and 6,490,485 pre-paid subscribers, the NCSI data showed. The number of active mobile broadband subscribers was at 4,439,068.
The total number of Internet service subscribers increased by 19.2 per cent to 321,248 at the end of July 2017 compared to 269,549 subscribers at the end of 2016.
The number of fixed narrowband internet subscribers decreased by 2.8 per cnet to 2,494 at the end of July 2017 compared to 2,566 subscribers at the end of 2016. The number of fixed broadband internet subscribers grew by 19.4 per cent to 318,754 at the end of July 2017, compared to 312,358 subscribers at the end of 2016, according to the NCSI data.
Of the total number of fixed telephone lines, the Governorate of Muscat’s share was 53.2 per cent of the total lines compared to Al Wusta, which had the least at 0.2 per cent. The Governorate of Al Batinah had 13.6 per cent of the total subscribers, followed by the Governorate of Dhofar, which had 11.6 per cent. Both Al Dakhiliyah and Al Sharqiah had 7.4 per cent each while Ak Dhahirah had 2.7 per cent of the total number of subscribers at the end of July this year, according to the NCSI data.
