At least two killed in Nepal airplane crash near Mt. Everest

Kathmandu: At least two people were killed in Nepal when an airplane collided with a helicopter Sunday morning, according to local authorities.

Locals said a Summit Air plane collided with a Manang Air helicopter that was parked at Lukla airport.

"At least two persons are dead, while few others are injured," local media stated. The Summir Air plane was reportedly en route to Kathmandu from Lukla.

Lukla airport is the nearest airport to Mount Everest, while April-May is the peak climbing season in the Himalayan country.

In spring, domestic airline companies conduct over 50 flights everyday to Lukla, known as Tenzing Hillary airport.

Due to the extreme wind pressure, all round-trip flights are usually operated in the morning.
