Beauty and makeup myths busted

It’s like this —if you repeat a lie a million times, it eventually starts feeling real. Here are 6 myths that you need to stop believing in right now.

Bold eyes with bright lips are a disaster – Everyone says that you have to keep one of the two subtle. The truth is, not really! We aren’t telling you to flaunt that look on your first day at work, but when done tactfully and for the right occasion, smoky eyes and red lips can actually be a great combination.

Match your foundation to the back of your hand – Hold your hand against your face and you’ll see why it’s completely wrong; they are two different colours! The best way to match your foundation is by trying it on your face itself. Apply a streak along your jawbone and see the tone that works best.

Be loyal to a brand – That’s not your beauty expert speaking; that’s the brand pleading you to not make the switch once they’ve got your attention. This is common for hair products. It’s believed that sticking to one brand of shampoo gets your hair used to it. We say, by all means, experiment; just keep an eye on the sulfate content. Simple as that!

Match your manicure with your pedicure – In the age of mismatched earrings, are we still going to match our manicure to our pedicure? Toss this one out of the window right away. Here’s some sound logic. Some people tend to have darker fingers when compared to their toes because of more exposure to the sun. And we’ve always been told to match colors with our skin tone, right? So there you go.

Split ends are repairable – Sorry to break it to you if you’ve just bought a hair care set promising to do just that but it’s a lie. Once the hair strand splits, the only thing to do is trim it. No product will actually magically reconstruct it. Yes, giving it the necessary hydration, nourishment and attention will improve how it generally looks, but it won’t bring the two ends back together.

Lip-plumpers are good – They’re not. The reason your lips look fuller is because lip-plumpers have menthol and other ingredients that actually irritate your lips and make it swell. We’ll let you be the best judge here.
