Oman deports more than 100 foreign workers for labour violations

Muscat: A total of 108 expats were arrested and deported in Buraimi for 'for violating labour laws', the Ministry of Manpower announced.

According to the Ministry, the arrests were made in March as part of a inspection campaign and its efforts to regulate the labour market. In a statement, the Ministry said, "The Ministry of Manpower, represented by the Manpower Department in Al Buraimi Governorate, managed to arrest 54 workers who were in violation of the labour laws and regulations in the Sultanate last March."

"Most of the violations were concentrated in establishments of commercial licenses with 41 workers being arrested from there, and six workers were arrested within private professions, with seven arrested from agricultural professions," the Ministry added.

After an investigation, it was revealed that 44 of the arrested workers were found to have left their work, and another 10 were freelance.

"During the same period, 54 expat workers were deported out of the country as a result of their violations of the provisions of the Labour Laws," the Ministry said.
