​340 arrested for violating labour laws in Oman

Muscat: A total of 340 expat workers were recently arrested in Oman recently, the Ministry of Manpower announced on Monday.

The expats, officials said, were arrested for violating labour laws. According to the ministry, 254 commercial workers, 19 agricultural workers and 67 housemaids were among those arrested.

"An inspection team from the Ministry of Manpower managed to arrest 340 workers in violation of the labour law and regulations between March 31 and April 4," the Ministry said.

“After an investigation, it was found that 222 of them were absconding workers, 107 were laid-off workers and 11 didn’t have official documents,” the ministry added.

Muscat Governorate recorded the highest number of violations with 200 cases, followed by North Batinah with 56 cases. Meanwhile, 469 illegal expats were deported during this period for violating the Residence Law and other ministerial laws.
