Islamic Games: Shooter Said Al Hashmi wins Oman’s first medal

Muscat: Marksman Said Al Hashmi opened Oman’s medal account in the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games when he won the bronze medal in the 25-metre rapid fire pistol competition in Baku, Azerbaijan on Sunday.
According to information posted on the Games official website, Said Al Hashmi had a perfect series with five hits to earn bronze in what was his first international final.
Azerbaijan’s Ruslan Lunev claimed the gold, his second in two days, as he managed a fine come-from-behind victory in the final.
Lunev, who took gold in the 25-metre centre-fire pistol event on Saturday, beat Said Al Hashmi in a shoot off and then came from behind in the final round to overtake Turkey’s Murat Kilic.
Oman face Algeria

In Monday’s action, Oman football team will take on Algeria in their final Group B match. The match is scheduled to kick off at 12.30 Oman time.
Hamad Al Azzani-coached Oman under-23 side are unbeaten so far after having drawn 2-2 with Palestine and defeating Turkey 3-2 in their earlier matches.
The Omanis will be looking do well against the Algerians and hope to enter the semifinals with an unbeaten record.
The group’s other match, which will also start at the same time, will see Palestine taking on Turkey.
Meanwhile, the Omani team underwent a rigorous training session ahead of the match in the presence of Sheikh Saif Al Hosani, vice-chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee and head of the Sultanate’s delegation, and Oman Football Association board member Ahmed Al Rashdi.
