Table tennis: Arundhati emerges champion at ISC tourney

Muscat: Arundhati Ramesh bagged the women’s singles crown at the Al Amana Building Materials Company-sponsored Annual Table Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC).
In the final between two teenagers, Arundhati overpowered challenger Surabhi Salian winning in five games 11-8, 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9.
The match lacked the thrill and intensity that was witnessed in their semi-final clash in the senior girls category a day earlier.
Arundhati will bid to win a second title when she takes on Manvi Sarawanan in the senior girls final.
In the men’s A singles league matches, Subash Pillai defeated Dr. Simon Joseph 11-4, 11-9, 11-9 but Simon also managed to record a win when he defeated Dinesh Gandhi 11-6, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8.
Areeb Usman notched up two wins, defeating M. Zaheeruddin 11-8, 11-5, 11-5 and followed it up with a win over teenager Sanskar Dubey 11-6, 11-8, 11-9.
Subash Pillai scored his second win of the league beating Prakhar Pateriya 12-10, 11-2, 11-9.
Prakhar, however, won his next match with a hard-fought 7-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 win over Dinesh Gandhi. Subash Pillai went to the top of his group with his third victory when he defeated Dinesh Gandhi 11-9, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5.
