Stage set for finals of Times of Oman Inter School Quiz Contest

Muscat: The stage for the finals of Times of Oman Inter School Quiz Contest (TOOISQC) to be fought at the City Amphitheatre on Saturday, April 29 has been set.
Twelve teams from the junior category who made it to the finals are Indian School Al Ghubra (Pranshu Dasgupta, Sai Madhav Kota), Indian School Muscat (Faizan Najeeb, David Jijo), Pakistan School Muscat (Muhammad Abdullah, Abdullah Jahangir), Indian School Sohar (Sree Sankar Pradeep, Armaan Shaikh), Indian School Wadi Kabir (Mohammed Ameen, Adar Raffi), Indian School Darsait (Alok Sachin, Aditya C.M), Al Ghad Al Mushriq (Rabie Haider, Sulaiman Al Busaidy), Indian School Ibri (Aditya Chakraborty, Jevon Jaden Joseph), Indian School Seeb (Prajwal R.K, A Mithun Bharath), Bangladesh School Muscat (Inaam Bashar, Ghufran Ahmed), Indian School Ibra (Justin Augustine, Justine Kuriachan) and Indian School Muladha (Ashlin Joy and Roshan Rajesh Kumar).
Among the seniors, Indian School Muscat (Krithivaas Vijay, Aliva Das), Indian School Wadi Kabir (Chethan Sethu, Rahul Rathnakar), Indian School Al Ghubra (Anirudh Govil, Yashasva Swapanik), Philippine School (Crimson John S. Wong, Crimson Paul S. Wong), Indian School Darsait (Harikrishnan Lal Pillai, Sneha Ann Reji), Indian School Salalah (Darrin Peter Carvalho, Mihir Ravat), Indian School Seeb (Adeel Ahsan, Junaid Shaikh), Indian School Sohar (Manas Vegi, Abhinav Suresh), Indian School Sur (Prasanth Thomas, Jayadeep Babu), American British Academy (Nikhil Narayanan, Afnan Azi Akbar), Sri Lankan School Muscat (Tariq Nazeem, Amar Yasir), Pakistan School Muscat (Mehereen Mansoor, Maryam Sarah) will fight it out to win the TOOISQC contest and lift the Essa bin Mohammed Al Zedjali Rolling Trophy.
The 24 teams who made it to the finals were from among the 504 teams (from 22 schools) who contested in what the quizmaster Giri ‘Pickbrain’ Balasubramaniam described as the ‘high standard mega prelims’ at the Indian School Muscat on Thursday.
Describing the performance of the teams as ‘remarkable’, Giri said, “The sheer enthusiasm and energy the juniors bring to this quiz makes them a winner. It was adorable to see kids from class four and five qualifying for the mega prelim. The 12 that made it to the junior final look balanced. It sure makes for a great final.”
About the seniors he said, “The senior prelim was a slightly tough one this year. It is wonderful to see teams that have moved up from the junior quiz in the past to the senior level now qualifying here. The senior final will be a treat to witness is my assessment based on the prelim.”
Pickbrain added, “Overall with 1900 plus teams quizzing in Oman has come a long way, thanks to Times of Oman.”
Dr Sathish Nambiar, managing director of Eventful /Doc LLC, the leading event management company which is organising the 2017 edition of the Times of Oman inter school quiz said, “The fact that so many teams participated in the prelims proved that parents, schools and participants are very enthusiastic about the quiz promoted by Times of Oman. We are delighted to be associated with this event which brought all school children together and tested them in this mind sport. We are looking forward to what we expect to be a thrilling finally. We once again thank our presenters and sponsors for their support.”
Faizan Najeeb from Indian School Muscat who made it to the finals said, “We worked hard in the last one month. Most of the questions were from Times of Oman and we made it a point to go through the paper almost every day. It really helped us. The quality of the quiz was very good.”
Teams from schools that participated in the mega prelims to reach the finals included Indian School Muscat, Indian School Al Ghubra, Indian School Wadi Al Kabir, Indian School Darsait, Indian School Seeb, Indian School Mabela, Indian School Salalah, Indian School Sohar, Indian School Nizwa, Indian School Muladha, Indian School Sur, Indian School Ibri, Indian School Ibra, Indian School Jalan, Indian School Rustaq, Bangladesh School Sohar, Bangladesh School Muscat, Philippine School, Pakistan School Muscat, Sri Lankan School Muscat, American British Academy and Al Ghad Al Mushriq School.
Breaking all previous records, over 1900 student teams from both categories had participated in the prelims of the ‘knowledge movement’ created by the Times of Oman.
Times of Oman Inter School Quiz Contest (TOOISQC) is being presented by Minara and powered by Omantel. The two finals of the contest are slated for Saturday, April 29, at the City Amphitheatre in Qurum at 7 pm.
The winning school at the Times of Oman Inter School Quiz Contest (TOOISQC) will lift the Essa bin Mohammed Al Zedjali Rolling Trophy for their school.
