Slovakia’s first female president to take office this summer

Muscat: Zuzana Caputova will take office as Slovakia’s first female president on 15 June following her historic electoral victory.
She will take the helm after the term of incumbent President Andrej Kiska expires.
Caputova’s victory caps a stunning rise for the lawyer and anti-corruption campaigner, who won the first round with 40.5 percent of the votes before beating European Commissioner VP Maros Sefcovic in the second round. He told the reporters that he called Caputova to congratulate her on the win. In the second round, she received 58.40 percent of the vote.
Caputova gave up her membership in the non-parliamentary Progressive Slovakia party before the run-off and vowed to fight for justice for all Slovaks.
She will be the fifth president after the country emerged as an independent state in 1993 following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
“No need to worry, all will be fine,” Caputova said on Facebook after the initial results began pouring in.
