Canines for a Cause event in Oman soon

Muscat: Some 800 tickets have been printed for the Canines for a Cause Charity Festival 2017, organised by the Canadian Jebel K9 Training and Services in Oman.
Canines for a Cause will be held on February 11 at Al Bustan Palace behind the Tennis Village.
This year’s theme focuses on dogs and the community.
Alfa Vold, founder and CEO of the company, started Jebel K9 in 2009. Soon, Vold felt the need to do more than just train and groom dogs, which resulted in beginning the annual charity event Canines for a Cause.“I conceived Canines for a Cause because many people came to me saying they have no place to take their dogs in Oman. They were finding it hard to get play groups, where their dogs could meet others, socialise and have fun. So I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it (Canines for a Cause) be fun?’” Vold said.
The first charity event was held three years ago, and had a turnout of some 500 people. Last year, 600 people showed up for the event, along with 150 dogs.
“It is truly a fun family day out; some bring their dogs and some just come to watch. The dogs need not be well trained. It is good fun for the children, too, and more Omanis are showing up with their dogs,” Vold said.
Donations
For the last two years, Jebel K9 has donated OMR4,000 to various charities, such as the Oman Diabetes Association, Oman Cancer Association and Al Khoud Orphanage. This year, Omani Paws and the Oman Diabetes Association for Insulin Dependent Children will also receive donations.
Doors for the event open at 9am, and the programme will continue from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free for children below 12. Entry fees for visitors above 12 is OMR5, while for dogs it is OMR2.
