Oman’s honey bees studied by German beekeepers

Muscat: A team of German beekeepers visited the Bee Research Center in Oman to learn about beekeeping in the Sultanate and to learn how world class honey is produced.
Sixteen Germans visited the Bee Research Center in Rustaq to learn how to breed the bees and produce honey in the Sultanate as well as find out about the development of beekeeping and honey production sector in Oman.
During the visit, the experts informed them on the ways of producing queens to rule the worker bees. They also got to know about the role of the labs, which are equipped with modern technology by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, in developing honey research.
The Germans also visited local bee farms in Wadi Sahtin, Wilayat Rustaq and exchanged knowledge in the beekeeping game.
The visitors were also amazed to learn about the modern and traditional techniques used to keep bees including how to ensure the bees are calm during honey comb inspections and how they adapt to Oman’s dry climate.
