New regulations for building permits in Oman

Muscat: A ministerial decision was issued by HE Ahmad Al Shuhi, Minister of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, amending the executive regulations for buildings.
12 articles have been amended (4, 18, 38, 39, 40, 43, 55. 59/c, 82, 87, 98 and 108) in the decision where the most notable is article 4.
With the amendment, article 4 states that large building permits are now valid for 2 years, while for minor buildings is valid for only one year. The permits will be renewed for the same period of the construction is still ongoing while paying fees in place considering there is not a reason to prevent the renewal.
Also those who wish to build near the sea, a permit from the Ministry of Housing must be obtained as stated by article 18. The minister also added a new paragraph in article 31 stating that every building must cater to the disabled such as designated parking spots and ramps on entrances.
