Brexit extension conditional: Tusk

Muscat: A short delay to the UK's departure from the EU will only be granted if British MPs approve the Withdrawal Agreement, European Council President Donald Tusk has said.
Tusk stated in a press conference, "In light of the consultations that I have conducted over the past days, I believe that a short extension will be possible, but it will be conditional on a positive vote on the Withdrawal Agreement in the House of Commons."
He added, "If the leaders approve my recommendations, and if there is a positive vote in the House of Commons next week, we can finalise and formalise the decision on the extension in a written procedure."
Tusk said he had spoken to May before making the announcement.
The UK is scheduled to leave on March 29, leaving MPs with little over a week to approve the agreement.
May had previously sent a letter to Tusk requesting Brexit be delayed to June 30.
