Oman crime: 388 workers arrested for violating labour law

Muscat: 388 labour law violators were arrested by the Ministry of Manpower, according to the ministry’s weekly index.
The ministry’s joint inspection team was able to arrest 388 labor law violators between January 1 and January 14 this year where 300 were commercial workers, 45 farmers and 43 domestic workers.

342 of the total were arrested by the ministry and upon further investigation 236 were absconded workers, 91 workers were released and 15 did not carry legal documents.
North Al Batinah Governorate recorded the most arrests with 105 followed by Muscat Governorate with 73.
Meanwhile during the same week, 446 labor law violators were deported after completing necessary procedures with their respective embassies.
