Muscat Municipality to privatise Amerat and Seeb slaughterhouses

Muscat: Muscat Municipality yesterday signed an agreement with Oman Livestock Company to manage and operate municipal slaughterhouses in the Wilayats of Al Amerat and A'Seeb for a period of five years, subject to renewal.
Eng. Mohsen bin Mohammed Al Sheikh, Chairman of Muscat Municipality and Eng. Ammar bin A'mer Al Sulaimani, Director General of Oman Livestock Company signed the agreement.
The agreement stipulates that the Muscat Municipality leased to Oman Livestock Company the municipal slaughterhouses in the in the Wilayats of Al Amerat and Seeb, so as to manage and operate these two slaughterhouses for a period of 5 years starting from next February, and until the end of January 2022 a contract is renewable with the consent of Muscat Municipality and new conditions.
The agreement includes the hiring by the company of (36) sheds, 48sqm each in Seeb slaughterhouse and (4) sheds, 48sqm each, in Al Amerat slaughterhouse.
In order to ensure business continuity in both slaughterhouses and providing services to the public, the agreement included the operation of both slaughterhouses seven days a week, with the necessity of providing the necessary human resources during seasonal periods in which the number of slaughtered livestock increases, such as the month of Ramadan, holidays and vacations, with a commitment to operate the slaughterhouses in Ramadan, during daylight hours.
The agreement comes within the framework of Muscat Municipality's strategy to achieve optimal investment for installations and facilities, services, and private sector involvement in some of the services it provides, allow the private sector to manage and operate these facilities efficiently and effectively, for the benefit of the community and raise the level of the provided services.
