Be’ah starts waste management operations in Dhofar

Muscat: Oman Environmental Services Holding Company, popularly known as be’ah, started its waste management operations in the Dhofar Governorate on Monday. The operations began in Wilayat Thumriat, and the rest of the wilyats in Dhofar Governorate will follow gradually.
International operator, Averda, has taken up these operations which are being closely monitored by a specialised workforce of be’ah to ensure safe, efficient and smooth transition of waste management services to be’ah, according to a press release. Averda has international experience and has been in this sector for over three decades, providing waste management services across three continents.
Averda’s services in Dhofar cover allocating sufficient amount of bins and maintaining them, ensuring cleanlinessaround bins within an area of 0 metres, and finally collecting the waste and transferring it to engineered landfills. The infrastructure in Dhofar consists of an engineered landfill inthe governorate and two engineered transfer stations in Raysut and Mirbat.
Entering a new era
The waste management sector in Oman is entering a new era as waste is now being collected and transferred using modern equipment. Besides, new bins are being distributed in residential, commercial and touristic areas. In addition, the service provider will clean and sterilise the bins.
Be’ah is also conducting an awareness campaign aimed at providing information about its role and strategy as well as the correct mechanism to deal with municipal waste.
The Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah) was established in 2007.In 2009, a Royal Decree, No. 46/2009, granted be’ah the mandate and the legal status as the entity responsible for solid waste management in the Sultanate of Oman.
Be’ah strives to accomplish a vision to preserve Oman’s environment for the future generations. It’s main objectives are to control environmental damage during traditional waste dumping processes,organise the waste sector and fields related to it.
