Oman hockey: Seeb Club to launch hockey academy in the New Year

Muscat: After the official opening of their state of the art hockey stadium, which is currently nearing completion, Seeb Club will launch their ambitious project - a modern hockey academy in the New Year.
The Seeb Club’s hockey stadium will be the first of its kind in the Sultanate with all the ultra modern facilities.
According to club’s vice-chairman Yousuf bin Abdullah Al Wahibi, Seeb Club had set aside half a million Omani rials to construct the hockey facilities.
“Work is underway at the hockey pitch. The stadium that will be officially opened soon at a special gala event befitting its status as the first of its kind hockey stadium in the Sultanate,” he said.
The club had come forward with an ambitious plan to establish a full-fledged hockey stadium and an academy with the funds from the Royal grant of OMR 1 million awarded to each club by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos in July 2013.
The club's announcement of work on the hockey facility nearing completion comes just days after Seeb Club won the record 11th His Majesty's Cup Hockey Championship trophy.
“The modern hockey facility will be a great addition to Seeb Club stadium in both the technical and aesthetic point of view,” Al Wahaibi said.
“We should take advantage of this stadium to develop Oman hockey and Omani hockey players.”
The club official explained that the idea of establishing the hockey academy came after consultations with the trainers and technicians.
“The aim is to spread hockey, and to enable the players and technicians to develop their skills as there is huge interest in the game and a number of players practicing hockey in the Seeb area,” he said.
Al Wahaibi also explained that the club has been in constant touch with the international experts and has been chalking out plans on the means and ways to establish the academy with the help of experts.
“We are also in touch with world famous hockey clubs and we would like to learn from their experience. And in the co-operation with the Ministry of Sports Affairs and Oman Hockey Association we hope to establish a modern hockey academy,” he said.
