Want to locate a fuel pump? New app will help you

Muscat: Oman's National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) Data Center launched a new smartphone app, Waqudi, in order for residents in the Sultanate to locate nearby fuel stations.

The application was launched this morning (Thursday), and is available free for both iOS and Android users. It only works on iOS versions 9 and up, and Android versions 4.2 and up. It is 35 Mbs in size, and provides Arabic and English formats for users.

Users providing their location to the app are able to view a map with fuel stations close to their locations. In addition to that, users may also zoom out of their current location to peruse other fuel stations in the country, as a means to plan accordingly for fuel stops in their journey.

Another feature of the app is its display of current petrol prices for the day, including the different fuel options Super, Regular, and Diesel. The display also shows the prices’ percentage increase or decrease from the last change in fuel price.

For those in situations where Wifi or data isn’t immediately available, the app can store favorite locations, as well as offline maps for perusal without internet. The ‘log in’ option also provides a smooth means to log into different devices with the same account, and find their favorite locations and maps.

Meanwhile, another new smartphone app, Banki-NCSI, which helps Omani residents locate bank branches, ATMs and CDMs around the country has been launched by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

The application is available to iOS and Android users at no cost, but requires iOS versions 9+, or Android versions 4.2+ in order to operate. Banki is over 40mb in size, and provides English and Arabic formats for users.

Banki helps users search and view banks close to their location, as well as zoom out to see other bank and cash machines around the country. The app provides a route to those locations from the current entered location as well.

The app provides the option to search for special banking services such as loans and investments in order to find a bank branch that would provide it. In addition to that, the app shows insurance company offices by their different services, such as health insurance, life insurance, corporate or individual.

Users are able to rate these locations, and give feedback on their experience. The rating and feedback would be available for all users to see when they view the location.

As with a similar app launched today, Waqudi, which locates fuel stations, Banki can also store favorite locations, as well as offline maps for perusal without internet. The ‘log in’ option also provides a smooth means to log into different devices with the same account, and find their favorite locations and maps.
