Sohar Refinery undergoes safe shut down

Muscat: Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industry’s (Orpic’s) Sohar Refinery experienced a total safe shutdown due to technical issues. This is part of operational activities of the company and resulted in irregular flaring.
“At Orpic, we always place safety and the environment first. Our maintenance team was in place and resolved the technical issue. Our Odor Management and Control Team also worked to ensure minimum impact on our environment and community,” said a statement.
The Sohar Refinery is currently under preparation for startup and feed cut-in for RFCC starts from now. During this period, there might be high flaring for some time till all units are stabilised.
A senior Orpic official said, “There has been some technical issue in the refinery, however we have immediately addressed it and are actively working on resolving it. At Orpic, we believe in mitigating and minimising risks with a clear target to zero harm. Safety of our people, plant and the communities within which we operate is our utmost priority.”
