Oman crime: Police seize six million pills, arrest 'gang'

Muscat: At least 10 men are being been held by the Royal Oman Police for allegedly attempting to smuggle six million psychotropic tablets into Oman.
The ROP found the drugs stored inside pipes used in the construction industry. Captagon tablets, containing a psychotropic substance, were found inside the pipes.
Officers from the Directorate General of Narcotics Control discovered the tablets, which they said had come to Oman from three neighbouring countries. Meanwhile, a spokesman for the ROP declined to specify the number of men who have been detained, but confirmed that it was over 10.
Commenting on the arrests, Colonel Abdulrahim Al Farsi, Director General of Narcotics Control, said, “According to the information, gang members hid more than six million Captagon tablets inside pipes used in a digging machine.
“After the pipes arrived at the location, the gang extracted the pills and stashed them in an apartment, until they were ready to be smuggled from the Sultanate to another country,” added Col. Al Farsi.
He noted that the gang had been closely monitored for weeks and police waited for the right opportunity to arrest them. When all gang members had gathered in one place, officers moved in.
The drug smuggling case has been sent to the public prosecutor.
