GCC Stat praises Oman's efforts and achievements

Muscat: The all round progress made by the Sultanate under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said has been hailed by GCC Stat.
Thanks to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the architect of modern Oman and the royal far-sighted vision, the pillars of a modern state have been enhanced Oman and it has successfully achieved its present status, GCC Stat said in a special report on the occasion of the 46th National Day.
It pointed out that the Omani economy posted 19.1 per cent growth during the period from 2010 to 2015 as the GDP stood at about $69.8 billion in 2016 compared to $58.6 billion in 2010. The per capital GDP stood at $16,790 in 2016. In the field of commerce, the Sultanate's exports of the commodities of Omani origin (excluding oil) grew by 22.7 per cent during the period from 2010 to 2015 , which hit $7.8 billion in 2015 compared to $6.4 billion in 2010.
As for oil, the GCC Stat pointed out that the Sultanate's oil production in 2015 grew by 4 per cent to hit 981,000 barrel per day (bpd)compared to 944,000 bpd in 2014.
The Sultanate attaches great interest and care in education. The number of schools stood at 1534 in the school year 2014/2015; a growth by 1.6 per cent compared to 2013/2014 at which the number of schools stood at 1510 school. The number of school students at the school year 2014/2015 stood at 577, 000 compared to 2013/2014. The number of male and female teachers also stood at 64,000 in the school year 2014/2015; a growth by 2.2 per cent compared to 2013/2014.
The report added that the international health organisations appreciate the efforts made by the Sultanate to provide quality health care for citizens and expatriates. As of 2015, the number of hospitals stood at 70 with a 6468 bed capacity compared to 67 hospital with 6322 bed capacity in 2014.
The Sultanate also attaches great interest to tourism sector which is expected to play a role in attracting foreign investments and generating job opportunities for Omanis. In 2015, the inbound visitors stood at 2.6 million ; a growth by 18.2 per cent compared to 2.2 million in 2014. The total expenditure on inbound tourism stood at $288.2 million in 2015 compared to $250.1 million in 2014; a growth by 15.2 per cent. The number of hotels and accommodation facilities stood at 318 in 2015 compared to 286 in 2014.
The Sultanate was ranked high on the Arab and world levels in a number of reports by international organizations, such as the Global Competitiveness Report 2016/2017 at which the Sultanate came third on the world level in terms of absence of organized crime. The Sultanate was also ranked 9th on the world level in terms of effect of taxes on promoting investment. At the UN Human Resources Development Report 2015, the Sultanate was ranked with the advanced countries in terms of human resources development.
