Iran offers attractive investment opportunities

Muscat: International law firm CMS, operating in Oman, in exclusive cooperation with Amur Al Rashdi and Benjamin Ewing Advocates and Legal Consultants, conducted a seminar on foreign investment in Iran.
The event brought together senior diplomats, banking executives, commercial management teams and market strategists from across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Europe. International experts shared their knowledge and experiences on the Iranian market, market entry and applicable sanctions.
In his opening remarks, Dr Hafez Kamal Hedayat, vice-president of the Iran Oman Chamber of Commerce, gave an overview of the Iranian economy and the wealth of opportunities in Iran for foreign investors.
Dr Hedayat said that Oman is central to the international business community’s success in building business and creating profitable investments in Iran, and thanked CMS for its contribution and effort in always providing the most up to date information and services to its clients and giving back to the communities in which it operates.
Dr Amir Kordvani, head of CMS’ Iran Desk and Projects for the Middle East, noted that Omani companies are in a strong position to benefit from opportunities in the Iranian market and are currently involved in a number of high-profile projects. He emphasised that Oman’s participation in, and benefit from, the Iranian market are well deserved after its role as facilitator and negotiator in the The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) talks.
Caroline Hobson, Head of CMS UK’s Competition team and CMS’ leading sanctions expert, shared her wealth of knowledge of sanctions laws and their impact on different companies, deal teams and transactions. Hobson made clear that not all sanctions had been lifted under the JCPOA and that care must be taken when considering projects in Iran or with Iranian counterparties.
Participants and panelists shared their views, successes and challenges in Iran and enjoyed one-on-one discussion with CMS’ Iran market and sanctions experts.
Ben Ewing, head of CMS’ Oman office, expressed his gratitude to all panellists and participants, saying, “CMS Oman has looked forward to hosting this event for some time and we couldn’t be happier with the response from our clients and the experts’ willingness to participate. Their contributions to the success of today’s seminar are invaluable. CMS Oman will continue to help international business establish and grow, which offers only great things for clients and the community in both the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
