Nine research projects win Oman’s national award

Muscat: Nine research projects were selected for the National Research Award at the third Annual Research Forum of the The Research Council on Wednesday.
The event was organised under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan, and Chairman of TRC Board.
The forum honoured six student research works.
Sayyid Shihab, said in a statement, “We honour at this event a group of Omani and non-Omani researchers and all of these research projects will be supported and funded by TRC. The Council has long-term programmes to be activated in various sectors”.
Major gathering
The annual event is considered one of the major scientific gatherings in the Sultanate. It aims to spread culture of scientific research in the Sultanate and to encourage researchers to highlight their research activities in various fields, stipulated by the National Research Strategy, which is among TRC
priorities.
At the beginning of the Forum. Dr Saif bin Abdullah Al Hadabi, TRC Assistant Secretary-General for Programmes and Research gave a presentation on the major research programmes in the Sultanate and their achievements in promoting a culture of scientific research, building research capacity and excellence, knowledge transfer and establishing research links between researchers and academic and research institutions in the Sultanate.
Dr Obaid bin Mohammed Al Sa’eedi, Director of Programmes Department gave a brief presentation on the National Research Award, its objectives and achievements over the past years.
Human resources
In the education and human resources sector, a research project entitled “The Level of Practice of the Arabic Language Teachers of their Roles in Instilling Values of Citizenship in their Students, from the Viewpoint of the Students Themselves in the
Sultanate” won.
The team is led by Dr Raya bint Salim Al Manthriya, Assistant Professor at College of Education, majoring in Curriculum and Teaching Methodology of Arabic Language.
In the telecommunications and information systems sector, the award went to research project titled “Lateral Rapid Extraction Stage, Using Hilbert Signal Information” by the main researcher Munthir Qudaisat from the College of Applied Sciences in Sohar. The forum included specialised sessions, parallel to the presentation and discussion of research outputs. — ONA
