Big Book Sale at Dar Al Atta’a bookshop every first Saturday in Oman now

Muscat: Come first Saturday of every month, and book lovers can avail of a bounty.
Beginning October 1, bibliophiles will be able to buy used books at 50 per cent less price at the Dar al Atta’a ‘Big Book Sale’ at the Al Qurum Complex.
The sale, which will now be held on the first Saturday of every month instead of the last Saturday, will remain open from 10am to 10pm. With hundreds of great titles for adults and children, ranging from 500 baizas to one rial, everyone can expect to find something of interest.
Sales proceeds are used to support Maktabati, Oman’s first mobile library which travels around the country, visiting schools and festivals. Dar Al Atta’a Let’s Read Campaign has been promoting the love of reading among children in Oman since 2007.
The campaign’s committee achieves its aims in a variety of ways, by setting up play rooms, libraries and reading areas in hospitals, schools and nurseries. They also organise book clubs for teenagers and children.
Clearly, such a bookshop cannot run without enough donors and volunteers, so it seeks donations in the form of books, whenever possible. If members of the public are interested in donating books or volunteering at the bookshop or at any of its activities, information can be obtained at the shop at the Al Qurum Complex.
The Let’s Read campaign opened its first bookshop in the country last year at the Al Qurum Complex.
As Oman’s first charity bookshop, it has books for both children and adults. Located at 116, first floor, the shop is open daily from 10am to 1pm and 5pm to 7pm.
Speaking to the Times of Oman, Jane Jaffer, initiator of the Let’s Read campaign, said reading habits were lacking in the country and this campaign encourages the love of reading by providing easy access to inexpensive, but good books.
