Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has identified the person who sold the fake Indian currency to the Omani couple as an "Asian national".
The ROP is planning to seek the help of global agencies to extradite him from his home country.
"The accused stayed in Oman for only about five hours during the transit and managed to sell fake currencies at the exchanges in Kabourah and at Muscat International Airport," a spokesman for the ROP said.
"The CCTV footage at money exchanges and at the airport is clear and we have collected his travel documents to trace his identity. Now, we are looking for options to extradite him," the official added.
In addition to releasing the picture of the swindler, the ROP has issued a strict warning to money exchanges to be extra cautious while purchasing and selling currencies.
"The notice issued by the Central Bank of Oman has to be followed strictly and the money exchanges should never fail in informing the police when they suspect any kind of dubious activities," the official added.
