Pakistan’s 70th Independence Day celebrated in Oman

Muscat: Oman’s Pakistani community celebrated its country’s 70th Independence Day with a series of events on Sunday.
Naheed Naveed Atif, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Pakistan, raised country’s flag on the embassy premises while a select gathering of Pakistanis sang Pak ser zameen shaad baad (their National Anthem). The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony in the Embassy’s Consular Hall.
Earlier, Naheed read out the President’s and Prime Minister’s messages to the community.
“Today, we are celebrating our Independence Day with a new zeal and vigour. I am confident that our determination will pave the way for political, social and economic stability in the coming days,” she quoted President Mamnoon Hussain as saying.
In his message, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif urged his countrymen to face today’s challenges by remaining unified.
“The protection of independence is even harder than its achievement. The creation of Pakistan would have been impossible without the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah,” she quoted the PM as saying.
Pakistan School Muscat
Pakistan School Muscat also hosted an Independence Day celebration. PSM students recited national songs and delivered speeches.
Adnan Shahzad, Chairman BOD PSM, Ataullah Khan Niazi, Senior Principal Pakistani Schools System in Oman, and Khalid Jadoon, PSM principal, briefed the audience on The International General Certificate of Secondary Education results and outstanding academic achievements of its students in 2016.
Pakistan International Airlines also cut a cake at its head office to mark the holiday.
