Muscat: With the southern parts of the Sultanate enjoying beautiful weather, this is the perfect season to visit the region.
When the south of Oman is mentioned, Salalah is the first area that comes to mind, though there are many other unique attractions throughout the region, which represent what is unique about the Sultanate. Visitors can enjoy wildlife sanctuaries that attract birds from across the world, as well as pink beaches that are a natural wonder... and yes, the waters are truly pink!
Consider, then, that the Wusta region is a magical region which is ripe for exploring.
If you are bitten by the wanderlust bug, but have only a short time for a getaway, then treat yourself to locations that seem out-of-this-world:
Pink beaches
You may have seen some images of pink beaches in exotic locations, such as Australia, Azerbaijan and Bolivia, but did you know that the Sultanate has its own awe-inspiring pink beaches?
The pink beaches of Al Jazir are a string of seasonal lagoons that will make you think you are staring at an edited photo.
The lagoons cause visitors to second guess their vision, as on one side they see a saturated image of pink lagoons and green mangroves, and on the other side are white sands and blue waters.
Barr Al Hikman
No other word describes Barr Al Hikman better than ‘magical’. Crystal clear teal waters, white sandy beaches, and the unadulterated view of infinite beauty provide visitors with the feeling of secluded beauty and a pure proximity to nature, which is invigorating.
Barr Al Hikman is also famous for being a flight path for many birds that migrate from across the globe, and is, in fact, one of the few spots to view so many birds. You will not see any any buildings here, just pure nature in its most beautiful form.

Masirah Island
One of the most famous islands in the Sultanate, Masirah Island, is renowned for a reason -- it is spectacular. The south side of the island has beaches that are completely different from its north side, and both sides are adorned with fine white sands and waters rich in biodiversity.
The island has become one of the most popular destinations for water sport activities, and has attracted many sports personalities from across the GCC and the world. Masirah Island is a renowned destination to kitesurf, scuba dive and go fishing.In fact, it is often found on online lists, citing the islands as one of the best destinations for these water sports.
Srikanth Ayyagari, a tourist who visited Al Masirah Island, said the breezes off the Arabian Sea result in Masirah being 10 degrees cooler than much of Oman.
Visitors also wake early to see the islands’ famous sunrises.

Ayyagari, who stayed at Masirah Island Resorts, was all praise for the ambience, calling it“unbelievable”.

How to get there
Pink beaches: You can reach the pink beaches by passing Duqum and heading southwest until Al Jazir. The pink beach is approximately 7kms east of the city centre.
Barr Al Hikman: Head towards Masairah and then Mahout, following the signs to Filim, where you turn right to the sandy beaches. Make sure you have a 4x4 and are experienced in driving off road, as the sands are difficult to traverse. It is advisable to hire a local guide to take you.
Masirah Island: Take the Sur – Sinaw road and continue 470kms until reaching Mahout, then head to the jetty in Shana, which is about 75km. You will need to take the ferry to the island, after reaching the jetty.
