Muscat: Omanis, and expats working in the private sector in Muscat, will only be allowed to submit labour complaints against employers through the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) website beginning August 1, the Ministry announced through social media.
The Ministry stressed that any written complaints will not be accepted beginning next month.
The Ministry has opened a web portal,www.manpower.gov.om, on a trial basis for workers registered with companies operating in Muscat.
Further, nationals holding old ID cards, and expats with old resident cards, must renew these cards to obtain PKI-enabledcards, which will allow them to use the e-services offered by the ministry. The new e-services include filing labour complaints, follow-ups on the status of registered complaints, complaints about private sector establishments violating labour laws, as well as filing complaints about violating the rights of labourers.
The Ministry of Manpower explained that a user’s guide is available on the website to allow the public to better understand how to take advantage of communicating with the Ministry.
Do not delay
The online complaint platform states that a complainant should not delay in lodging a claim, as per Article 7 of the Labour Law.
Article 7 states that an employee’s right to make any claim under the provision of this law shall expire after the lapse of one year from the date on which such a claim arises.
Regarding cases filed before the implementation of this law, the one-year deadline will become effective from the date on which the law comes into force.
Also, the online platform clearly points out that an employer cannot act against a worker for approaching MoM to lodge a complaint.
