News Rewind: Eid holidays dominates headlines this week

With the government announcing the Eid Al Fitr holidays, it continued to dominate the news agenda in Oman this week.

1. Eid Al Fitr holidays will start from July 5 to July 9 for government and private sector employees, Oman News Agency reported, quoting the Diwan of Royal Court and the Ministry of Manpower. This was the best read story of the week.

2. A tropical storm is expected to strike Oman’s coast, the meteorology department and global typhoon warning centres predict. This was the second best read story.

3. Oman government on Thursday announced the revised petrol and diesel prices, which will be effective from July 1, 2016. This was the third best-read story.

4. An Indian construction worker lay dead inside a toilet cubicle for two days before police found him. This was the fourth best story of the week.

5. Loan sharks are seizing passports and charging interest rates of more than 100 per cent as cash-strapped expats and Omanis struggle to make ends meet. This was the fifth best read story.
