Oman, Jordan telecom regulators sign cooperation agreement

Amman: Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) on Wednesday signed a bilateral cooperation with the Jordanian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (JTRA).
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 14th Annual Meeting of the Arab Network for Regulatory Commissions of Telecommunications and Information Technology Sector, currently being held in the Jordanian capital Amman. Dr. Hamad bin Salim Al Rawahi, CEO of TRA and Dr. Ghazi al-Jabour, Board Chairman of JTRA signed the agreement.
The deal will help open areas of cooperation between the two sides in the field of regulating the telecommunications sector in accordance with laws and regulations, in addition to cooperation in the field of spectrum management and allocation of new frequency bands to increase access and improve the quality of mobile internet service.
It also help developing the necessary criteria for the improvement of free competition and upgrading the quality of telecommunications and postal services and other topics of interest.
Meanwhile, TRA participated in the meeting along with other Arab countries. The TRA CEO headed the Sultanate’s delegation in the meeting.
The delegates discussed the recommendations of the experts about current projects, which have been prepared in their preparatory meeting ahead of the official meeting after the discussion and evaluation.
The meeting discussed the comparative study of the prices of telecommunications in the Arab countries, and access to telecommunications and information technology services in rural and remote areas. The participants decided to hold the 15th meeting of the Arab Network for Regulatory Commissions of Telecommunications and Information Technology Sector in the United Arab Emirates in 2017.
