Oman’s Al Habsi becomes first Arab footballer to captain an English team

Muscat: Oman’s football superstar Ali Al Habsi has achieved a rare honour when he became the first Arab player to captain a club side in English football on Saturday.
The 34-year-old who captains the Oman national team, wore the armband for Reading in its game against Leeds United.
Soon after the match, Al Habsi tweeted on his official handle: “Very proud being the captain of my team. Thanks to everyone gave me the trust. It’s an honorable moment .”
Reading Club tweeted, “Goalkeeper @AliAlhabsi became the first Arab footballer to captain a club side in England this afternoon.”
Reading, however, lost to Leeds 3-2 at its Elland Road ground.
